Trio KoKo
Social BeatsTrio KoKo draws from the colourful worlds of library music, exotica and surf-cocktail. Most of their material is original, peppered with affectionate nods to the genres they love.
After a successful debut with This is Koko, the trio went quiet while its members pursued other projects - Phil Martin's Mystical Funk and The Soul Snatchers among them. When the 2020 lockdown hit, a stack of unfinished songs finally got the attention it deserved. The result was a burst of creative energy that produced several singles, two digital albums - Taruko I and Taruko II - and ultimately the vinyl release Taruko, a varied instrumental record with a cinematic quality that would sit comfortably in a Tarantino soundtrack.
Written by Ton van der Kolk and Ron Smith, produced by Van der Kolk and mixed and mastered by Edwin in 't Veld, Taruko is very much a product of Dordrecht. Fellow townsmen Maarten Teekens and Govert van der Kolm contribute background vocals and Hammond organ respectively.
Think surf, spaghetti western, Morricone, sixties beat, Italian B-movie scores, exotica, tiki lounge and space age pop. Trio KoKo are Go!
